Assessment of biospeckle activity of lemon fruit CIGR Journal
Ansari, Mohammad Zaheer; A. K., Nirala.
Bio-speckle can be used as a method for analysing the activity of biological materials illuminated with laser beam.  Physically, bio-speckles are the result of scattering of coherent light on moving particles inside living tissue.  Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate bio-speckle activity in lemons and determine the age of the lemon fruit from the observation of its dynamic speckle pattern.  The speckle pattern of laser light scattered in lemon fruits were measured through their quantification.  For the quantification of the variation by bio-speckle, two different methods of image analysis were used: moment of inertia and the spatial temporal speckle correlation coefficient.  The bio-speckle activities were also characterized by the line...

Extractos vegetales y Trichoderma spp. en el control de Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (Penz.) Penz. y Sacc. en frutos de papaya maradol (Carica papaya L.) en postcosecha. Colegio de Postgraduados
Landero Valenzuela, Nadia.

First report of the citrus hindu mite, Schizotetranychus hindustanicus (Hirst) (Prostigmata: Tetranychidae), in Brazil Neotropical Entomology
Navia,Denise; Marsaro Jr,Alberto L.
The citrus Hindu mite, Schizotetranychus hindustanicus (Hirst), is reported for the first time in Brazil and for the second time in South America. Mite specimens were collected from citrus in the municipality of Boa Vista, State of Roraima, northern Brazil. Symptoms associated with S.hindustanicus infestations on citrus are described. The importance of avoiding dissemination of this mite to the main citrus production areas in Brazil is discussed.

Limitations to photosynthesis at different temperatures in the leaves of Citrus limon Braz. J. Plant Physiol.
Pimentel,Carlos; Bernacchi,Carl; Long,Steve.
The response of CO2 assimilation rate (A) to the intercellular partial pressure of CO2 (Ci) was measured on intact lemon leaves over a range of temperatures (10 to 40ºC). The A/Ci response shows how change in the leaf temperature alters the activity of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate (RuBP) carboxylase-oxygenase (Rubisco) and RuBP regeneration via electron transport. The rate of A reached a maximum of 7.9 to 8.9 µmol m-2 s-1 between 25 and 30ºC, while dark respiration (Rd) increased with temperature from 0.4 µmol m-2 s-1 at 10ºC to 1.4 µmol m-2 s-1 at 40ºC. The maximum rates of carboxylation (Vc,max) and the maximum rates of electron transport (Jmax) both increased over this temperature range from 7.5 to 142 µmol m-2 s-1 and from 23.5 to 152 µmol m-2 s-1,...

The development of Alternaria alternata is prevented by chitinases and ß-1,3- glucanases from Citrus limon seedlings Biol. Res.
FANTA,NORA; ORTEGA,XIMENA; PÉREZ,LUZ M.
In addition to phytoalexin synthesis, the defense response of intact Citrus limon seedlings against Alternaria alternata involves both constitutive and induced enzyme activities such as chitinases (Ch) and ß-1,3-glucanases (Glu). A. alternata conidial germination was prevented by protein extracts from inoculated lemon seedlings, but also by extracts from mock-inoculated specimens. On the other hand, degradation of mycelia was accomplished only by protein extracts from inoculated seedlings. The presence of six Ch isoenzymes and of four Glu isoenzymes was detected in protein extracts from mock-inoculated seedlings. As a result of fungal inoculation, the isoenzyme pattern of Ch and Glu changed, making possible the detection of a new Ch isoenzyme and of three...
